Housing and Waiving Fees on Council Agenda

The council will discuss housing accommodations for people with disabilities, the St. Patrick's Day parade, and Green Idea House.

The City Council will hold a public hearing in its meeting Tuesday night to introduce a zoning code amendment requiring provisions for “reasonable accommodations” for people with disabilities seeking equal access to housing here in Hermosa.

Such an accommodation could be allowing a wheelchair access ramp to be constructed on certain property, for example.

Requests for these accommodations are often made when zoning or building codes pose a barrier to disabled persons in need of housing, according to city staff.

In an effort to develop a lucid procedure for considering these requests, two ordinances are on the table for review (see accompanying staff report under photo).

As a municipal matter, the council will discuss the upcoming , which is being organized by the Chamber of Commerce, and decide whether to waive any city fees associated with producing the event.

The panel also will consider waiving certain permit and building check fees for the on Prospect Avenue.

The city’s midyear 2010-2011 budget review is on the council agenda. Council members will vote on approving revisions.

The council will discuss options for regulating live entertainment, such as directing city staff to draft an entertainment permit process for promoters.

The council meeting is Tuesday at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
