Serving as mayor is traditionally the result of an appointment, and not an election.

The city describes a mayor's responsibilities, along with the council, as being, "to establish policy; secure revenues; adopt an annual budget; appoint members of various city commissions and boards; and to rule on such matters as prescribed by the laws of the State of California and the City of Hermosa Beach."

This appointment will be at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
