Nominations for City Election Open

There are seats on the Hermosa Beach City Council up for election this year, along with city clerk and city treasurer.

The candidate nomination period for Hermosa Beach’s Nov. 8 municipal election opened Monday and continues until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12.

There are two seats on the five-member City Council up for election, as well as the positions of city treasurer and city clerk.

City Council incumbents whose terms will be expiring are Michael DiVirgilio and Peter Tucker. Hermosa Beach’s city treasurer is John Workman and city clerk is Elaine Doerfling.

If an incumbent has not filed nomination papers by the Aug. 12 deadline then the nomination period for candidates other than the incumbent will be extended to 5 p.m. on Aug. 17, according to the city clerk’s office.

If no one or only one person is nominated for an elective office then the candidate can be appointed to office under state election code.
