Officials: 'Shop Local' as 405 Closes

Residents are being urged to stay home this weekend during the 53-hour closure of the 405 Freeway.

Los Angeles county officials are urging residents to "stay home, shop local, and stay away from the 405 Freeway" during of the popular interstate.

County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa issued a message for county residents at a press conference Wednesday evening at the Sherman Oaks Galleria (see accompanying video report.)

Even here in Hermosa Beach, City Councilman Peter Tucker reminded locals in a council meeting Tuesday to prepare for what is being called "carmageddon."

"Get on your bicycle, go through the city on your bicycle, frequent all the businesses," he said.
