Poll: Should State Decriminalize Pot?

Group given OK to gather signatures in attempt to place a measure that would "regulate marijuana like wine" on next year's ballot.

Backers of an initiative that would decriminalize the possession, sale and cultivation of marijuana were given approval Friday to begin gathering signatures by Secretary of State Debra Bowen.

Valid signatures from 504,760 registered voters—5 percent of the total votes cast for governor in the 2010 general election—must be submitted by March 26 to qualify, what backers have dubbed, "Regulate Marijuana Like Wine" for the November 2012 ballot.

The initiative includes provisions that would regulate the commercial marijuana trade to match regulation of wine and beer.
