Beach-Goers React to Shortened Restroom Hours

A county decision to reduce beach bathroom hours due to budget cuts is not sitting well with some residents, Patch learns.

The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors announced plans last week to reduce public restroom hours on beaches neighboring Hermosa Beach, beginning May 1, due to budget constraints.

Beach-goers might need to plan trips to the surf and sand for later in the day this summer as crews won't be scheduled to begin cleaning bathrooms until 7 a.m. As a result, some bathrooms may not open until as late as 11 a.m.

Patch asked residents how they felt about the shortened restroom hours.

"Budget problems being what they are, we need to make some choices," said Hermosa Beach resident Steve Golob. "I'll leave it up to the people who have a complete scope of the situation."
