Residents Weigh In on Teen Tanning Ban

Local beachgoers tell Patch they support a state Senate bill that would ban minors from using indoor tanning beds if passed.

Teen health is the main concern when it comes to indoor tanning, residents told Patch.

A bill authored by state Sen. Ted Lieu and awaiting state Assembly approval . Under current law, minors between 14 and 17 can use tanning beds with parental consent, but many residents are already wary of the health risks the devices pose to teens.

"They don't realize when they're younger the consequences it has on both their health, in terms of skin cancer, and their looks," said local teen Hayley Lawson.
