The Hermosa Beach City Council approves a rebate program for "Energy Upgrade California" projects around town.

Hermosa Beach homes with renovations that have qualified for funding under the statewide Energy Upgrade California program now will see a rebate from the city.

The Hermosa Beach City Council night unanimously decided to approve a 50 percent rebate of the city's building permit plan check/inspection fees for retrofit improvements in an effort to encourage green building practices (see accompanying staff report under photo.) 

The recommended a 50 percent rebate, according to city staffers.

"This program isn’t only [about] energy efficiency, but also... puts contractors back to work so it has another wonderful component," said Marilyn Lyon, South Bay Environmental Services Center program manager, at the council meeting.

Hermosa Beach signed on last year to join the Energy Upgrade California program, run locally by the county. The county provides rebates for qualifying building upgrades that lower energy use, conserve water and natural resources.

The program is applicable to single-family Hermosa Beach homeowners for improvement projects.
