South Bay Bike Plan in Final Draft

The plan will be discussed in Hermosa Beach on Sept. 14 and Oct. 25.

The South Bay Bicycle Coalition has announced that a final draft of its South Bay Bike Master Plan is complete and ready for cities in the area to approve.

The plan aims to link existing networks and expand bike paths in seven local cities: El Segundo, Gardena, Hermosa Beach, Lawndale, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach and Torrance. The plan is funded through a grant from the county Department of Public Health.

"The cities are asked to adopt this plan over the next several months. Plan adoption would mean that the cities approve this document as a guideline they will utilize in future bike and bike-related project implementation," according to a statement from the coalition released Wednesday.

In the plan, each city has its own chapter that outlines suggestions for improving bike travel in that area. In the Hermosa Beach chapter, two project sites are listed: Prospect Avenue, from Artesia Boulevard to Anita Street, and Longfellow Avenue, from Hermosa Avenue to Valley Drive (see accompanying Hermosa Beach chapter of the plan under photo.)

A copy of the entire plan is available to view online.
