Tree Hugger Saves A Tree in Hermosa

The city cut down two of three trees scheduled for removal due to one person's efforts.

Laura Juneau saved a tree from being cut down last week when she tied herself to one of three trees scheduled for removal on Valley Drive in front of the Hermosa Beach Kiwanis and Rotary Club buildings, the Easy Reader has reported.

After receiving a tip last Friday about the Hermosan's attachment to a tree, Hermosa Beach Patch contacted the Rotary Club, which said the trees were on city property and details of their removal would have to come from city staff.

City staff, including City Manager Tom Bakaly and Public Works Director Frank Senteno did not return Hermosa Patch phone calls about the incident.

The Easy Reader has reported that only two of three trees scheduled to be cut down due to tripping hazards were removed and that a thrid one "will remain rooted to the spot," according to Bakaly.
