Two Pull Papers to Run for City Treasurer; One More for City Council

Three City Council seats are up for grabs in November as is the city treasurer's slot.

Carolyn J. Petty is the first Hermosa Beach resident to pull and file the necessary paperwork to run for City Council in the November election and two residents have pulled papers to run for city treasurer, according to the city clerk's office.

In addition, incumbent Jeff Duclos has pulled papers, the first step in a potential bid for a City Council seat, joining Nanette Barragan, Gregory J. Savelli, H.S. Fangary and current Mayor Patrick “Kit” Bobko as having taken the step.

Two potential city treasurer candidates, Julius (J.R.) Reviczky and Karen S. Nowicki, have now pulled papers to run for the position vacated when then treasurer David Cohn resigned on May 15. His resignation came after 18 months in office.

Three City Council seats are up for grabs in the November election. Those seats currently belong to Bobko and councilmen Jeff Duclos and Howard Fishman. Fishman has said he will not seek re-election. Duclos and Bokbo told Patch they will seek re-election, as did former Chief of Police Greg Savelli.

Barragan and Fangary along with Duclos, Bobko and Savelli have until Friday, Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. to return their completed paperwork to the city clerk. Once a candidate submits the necessary paperwork, the county registrar's office confirms the eligibility of each candidate in terms of citizenship, city of residence and related matters. Petty is at that stage in the process.

The municipal election is set for Nov. 5. Each elected council member's term is four years.
The new city treasurer will fill the seat for a two-year term.

Until a new treasurer is elected, the city's finance department is handling the treasurer's duties.
