Voters Scarce in Special Election
Patch talks to South Bay residents about whether they voted in the primary election to fill the vacant 36th Congressional District seat.
Voters trickled into the local polling places for the 36th Congressional District election on Tuesday. As with previous, turnout was low.
Patch asked South Bay residents whether they voted. Many expressed a lack of interest in local elections, while others, such as Hermosa Beach resident Erin Lorenzen, stressed the importance of voting—even for single-item ballots.
"I think it's just the right thing to do," Lorenzen said. "We have that freedom, and our voices need to be heard."

The special election has vying to fill the vacancy left by former Rep. Jane Harman. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote, a runoff election will be held July 12 between two candidates with the highest number of votes.
