Trash Recycling, Outdoor Dining on Council Agenda

City to discuss waste-collection contract, dining in public right-of-way spaces. Hermosa Beach Green Task Force to present its final sustainability plan.

The Hermosa Beach City Council in a meeting Tuesday night will discuss the city’s waste and recycling services contract—a topic that has been deliberated before this summer.

The Hermosa Beach Public Works Commission that the council consider revising the collection service and pursue green practices.

Now the council will discuss whether to direct City Manager Steve Burrell to prepare a request for contract proposals and seek them through a competitive bid process.

The council will discuss how to regulate outdoor dining practices without a conditional use permit. The panel will focus on dining in public right-of-way commercial spaces, excluding upper Pier Avenue.

The topic arose after the city launched its " to better monitor encroachments on the public right-of-way spaces downtown (see accompanying city staff report under photo.)

The Hermosa Beach Green Task Force will present its final sustainability report to the City Council, which will then decide whether to accept and direct city staffers to draft a two-year implementation plan.

Council members also will discuss occasionally scheduling meetings at places other than council chambers within city limits. The council recently held its August meeting at Hermosa View School.

The council meeting Tuesday is at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
