Gary Hoey & Ray Goren at Saint Rocke

International rock guitarist Gary Hoey will be live at Saint Rocke on June 27th, along with guitar prodigy Ray Goren. These two guys are going to light up the stage with their axes. Best known for his surf rock, Gary Hoey has taken on a new challenge by playing blues guitar. His album, “Déjà Blues” was released in November 2012. With over 18 albums, a song (“Hocus Pocus”) at #5 in Billboards rock hits and playing anything or anywhere from ESPN to “The Endless Summer II” soundtrack, it’s no wonder why Hoey is listed as one of the top 100 guitarists in the world.  Hoey has toured with Jeff Beck, Brian May of Queen, Ted Nugent, Joe Satriani, The Doobie Brothers, Foreigner, Styx, Steve Vai, Peter Frampton, and Dick Dale. That’s some damn good company to be surrounded by, in my humble opinion.

Speaking of great guitarists, Ray Goren keeps playing the way he is, this kid will quickly be on that list. In 2011 the Chicago Tribune said, “No one rattles the place like 11-year-old Ray Goren, from the Los Angeles area. He plays electric guitar — and sings — with a fluency, ease and depth of expression that defy easy explanation.” This kid is barely a teenager and he has already played the Doheny Blues Festival, Simi Valley Festival, Fender Pre-Grammy Event at Center Staging, Monterey Blues Festival, Chicago Blues Festival, Detroit Jazz Festival, Idyllwild Jazz Festival, Jamie Foxx Record Release/birthday party, Long Beach Festival Blues Bash, and twice played the Central Avenue Jazz Festival. Incredible. It just goes to show that truly great guitarists come in all shapes and sizes.
