Landmark Hermosa: View School
If you guessed Hermosa View Elementary School for this morning's trivia, you were right.
On the eastside of Hermosa Beach sits Hermosa View Elementary School on Prospect Avenue, where about 500 students learn the solar system, math, history, and even gardening.
The school enrolls children in kindergarten, first and second grades.
Before the school opened on Prospect, the location housed an adult school in the South Bay Union High School District, according to a Los Angeles Times report printed Aug. 19, 1993.

A different school then used the Prospect Avenue space for specialized English language courses for Japanese students, the report said.
At the time, the Hermosa Beach school district was experiencing overcrowding and opened View on Prospect to ease the influx of students, according to the report.

On Sept. 15, 1993, Hermosa View reportedly enrolled about 200 children.
After 10 years of its inception, View School was recognized as a California Distinguished School and honored with a national Blue Ribbon Award.
In 2006, Los Angeles magazine named View “one of 60 great elementary schools,” according to the Hermosa Beach City School District website.
