Letters From Wonderland

Casey Rohrer, an 8-year-old student with cerebral palsy at Hermosa Valley School, tells his story of traveling to Morgan's Wonderland.

Editor's Note: Hermosa Valley student Casey Rohrer, 8, was awarded a free trip to Morgan's Wonderland amusement park in San Antonio, Texas with his family as the second runner-up in a national contest last year sponsored by Morgan's Wonderland, PCI Education and WeAreTeachers for children with special needs.

Hermosa Valley paraprofessional Jeannine Madden nominated the local youngster, who has cerebral palsy, for the prize. In order to win, Casey had to accumulate votes online from fellow community members.

Morgan's Wonderland specializes in providing fun and games specifically to children and adults with special needs.

Casey's family visited the park last week, and he wrote about the trip on a special technology device he uses to communicate called a Tobii C12, as with cerebral palsy, Casey's ability to move and speak on his own is limited.

He smiled when told his letters would be published on Patch and shared with those who voted for him:

My Big, Big Vacation (written by Casey Rohrer)

The first day we went on a plane and then a car store person got us and gave us a wheelchair van. Then we went to the hotel and I said, "I have an idea. We can go to the Riverwalk and have lunch with the biting ducks."

My family went to Morgan's Wonderland and it was so cool and awesome! I went on a choo-choo at Morgan's Wonderland and a wheelchair merry-go-round. Morgan's Wonderland had an outdoor amphitheater and I put on a play and danced too.

Morgan's Wonderland had a birthday party and a parade. My dad and I went on an off-road adventure ride and I really liked it. Then it was time to go back to the hotel, but my dad said we would come back tomorrow. Then we went to the Alamo that night. I told my family I cannot look at the dead soldiers. Then it was time to go to bed.

The Welcome Center was a building where we got wrist things that show  your family where you are on the computer. We found mom and Luke in the Butterfly playground. The Butterfly playground was a playground and I played in its swing carousel.

There was also an off-road adventure, a gymnasium, and picnic pavilion.  The Waterworks was a water park and the amphitheater was an outside theater. The Sensory Village had a grocery store, stable and a weather station. Morgan's
Wonderland was really fun!
