Math Teachers Grade on New Program

The Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Club grants $1,800 to the accelerated math software program at Hermosa Valley School.

The has granted $1,800 to the to purchase "accelerated math and star math" software program for the school year.

The program is a computerized system that teachers can use to assess and monitor students’ daily mathematic learning through practices, quizzes and tests.

The system also keeps student scores and class records in an internal database.

"Our school test scores continue to have more and more students in either the 'proficient' or 'advanced' categories due to the use of the accelerated math program," said Hermosa School Board President Cathy McCurdy in a statement Thursday. "As always, I am very grateful for all of the support that the Hermosa Kiwanis Club provides to Hermosa schools."
