Mustangs Out 'Kill' Loyola in Boys Volleyball

The No. 2 and 3 ranked teams go head to head in an exciting contest that goes to 5 sets before some 2,500 spectators at Loyola Marymount University.

After dropping the first two sets against rival Loyola High in boys volleyball Friday night, the Mira Costa Mustangs roared back to take a 5-set victory, 24-26, 18-25, 25-16, 25-22, 15-11 in non-league play.

Loyola (10-2) came into the match ranked No. 2 in a CIF Southern Section Division I poll and Mira Costa (14-2) was No. 3.

MCHS players delivered key offensive play for the Mustangs: Connor Inlow recorded 10 kills; Scott Stephanoff had 14 kills; Casey White had 10 kills; Ryan Kaseff nad nine kills; Riley Mallon had eight kills, and setter Grant Chalmers added six kills.

The Mustangs faced 13 kills and four aces from Loyola's Jackson Bantle, with Garrett Mohr adding 10.

The Southern Section Division 1 powerhouses who played at Loyola Marymount before more than 2,500 spectators enjoy a storied rivalry. Players on both teams enjoy friendships and play together on club teams or at the beach.
