School Board Selects Panel Members to Study Sustainability Options

The volunteer committees will now study four possible options for sustaining the city's schools.

The Hermosa Beach School Board now has identified a volunteer team of community members to further research options to sustain Hermosa Beach public schools.

The board's  in a meeting on March 9, which include a possible parcel tax to raise money for schools, establishing a charter school system, unifying or consolidating with a neighboring school district and paring back curricula.

Community members were then encouraged to submit applications to the School Board to be considered to serve on volunteer subcommittees that will study each option and present findings in June.

The objective of each team is to “drill down deeper into the data that we’ve uncovered under the strategic planning group,” said School Board member Jack Burns during a School Board meeting Wednesday night. “The focus is to come back with more detail of information for one of these areas.”

The School Board selected subcommittee members Wednesday.
