MB School Board to Hold Special Meeting to Discuss Possible Budget Deficit, Cuts

The meeting will be held on Thursday.

In anticipation of a potential $5.2 million operating deficit for the 2013-2014 school year, the Manhattan Beach Unified School District board of trustees is holding a special meeting Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the district administration building, 325 South Peck Avenue.

The board will discuss ways to reduce costs and/or increase revenues by at least $1.25 million, according to the agenda, and provide staff with direction.

In addition, the board is being asked to adopt a resolution that provides tie-breaking criteria "to be used in determining the order of termination as between certificated employees who have the same seniority date.

High school students who live in Hermosa Beach may attend MBUSD's Mira Costa High School or Redondo Union, the high school in Redondo Beach under the jurisdiction of the Redondo Beach Unified School District.
