What Do We Do About Bullying?

The Hermosa Beach City School District and PTO are hosting a bullying intervention workshop.

Let's face it—bullying happens. Just last year, teachers at both Hermosa View and Valley schools reported in the  that bullying is a mild to moderate problem on our local campuses.

Now the Hermosa Beach City School District and Parent-Teacher Organization plan to meet with parents in a special workshop at Hermosa Valley School next week to battle bullying.

The workshop will be held Thursday, April 28, at 6 p.m. to help parents learn how to communicate with their children about bullying and intolerance (see accompanying invitation under photo.)

For parents unsure of how to discuss sensitive issues, such as bullying, with youngsters, they will learn certain skills and approaches from workshop presenter Tisha Marina, a Safe Schools Ambassador Program trainer with the nonprofit Community Matters.

The program has been implemented district-wide to reduce bullying among students. It teaches youth how to identify bullying and "friendly" ways to respond.
