Hermosa Lifeguard Wins Nationals
Alison Riddle of Hermosa Beach is the top women's competitor in the U.S. Lifesaving Association's National Lifeguard Championships.
Hermosa Beach resident Alison Riddle has returned home as a national champion after a weekend of competition at the U.S. Lifesaving Association’s National Lifeguard Championships.
The 28-event tournament, which was held in Cape May, NJ, ended Saturday night with Riddle holding the open women’s overall title and the Los Angeles County Lifeguard Association’s surf racing team claiming its 25th consecutive national championship.
The local surfers defeated a team from Monmouth County in New Jersey by 49 points.

The National Lifeguard Championships began in 1970—since then, have won the national title 38 times.

For the men, L.A. County lifeguard Brian Murphy came in runner-up for the overall title, with Tyler Morgan, Jeff Monroe and Chad Carvin coming in eighth, ninth and 10th.
