The City Council unanimously approved a second Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) tournament for this year during its Tuesday night meeting.
The late-summer tournament, scheduled for Sept. 17-19, is a smaller event than the Hermosa Beach Open this July 16-18. It was originally slated for play in Las Vegas--its location last year--before a last-minute venue change to Hermosa.

Although originally projected to bring 3,000 spectators a day, AVP organizer and Hermosa resident Dave Williams said he anticipated considerably fewer--closer to 1,500 to 2,000.
Before the City Council heard the request, it was twice presented to the .
The commission first unanimously recommended approval of the AVP event at its March 23 meeting. After a complaint of improper public notice, the request was reheard and unanimously approved again April 6.
