South Bay Surf Series to Kick Off

The first event in this year's South Bay Surf Series is set for Sunday next door in Manhattan Beach.

 

Some of the area's top wave riders will compete in the South Bay Boardriders Club's surf series, which kicks off with its first event Sunday.

The includes six contests for all age groups across the South Bay, according to the boardriders club's website.

The first event in the series will take place Sunday at 26th Street in Manhattan Beach. The series will continue until its championships in May.

Prizes will be awarded to finalists in each division and all contestants receive t-shirts and other items for entering the contest.

"It's about time the South Bay had something to go to, to compete in as a family, as an organization, as a support group," said former pro surfer Ted Robinson . At the time he won the master’s division.

South Bay Boardriders Club co-founder Mike Balzer that the surf series was created for all levels of the local wave-riding community.
