Abby Wambach Struts Her Gold Medal
The Hermosa Beach resident hung out with friends as they wandered around Pier Plaza and Hermosa Avenue, stopping into a few spots for food, friendship and fun.
On Tuesday, United States women's soccer team member Abby Wambach, who lives in Hermosa Beach, took to the pavement near the beach in Hermosa for a casual day of summer fun.
In tow? Some friends and her Olympic gold medal, which she gladly displayed to an Easy Reader staffer when she was at , next door to the newspaper's office.

Later, in Hermosa Beach tweeted that she was there, enjoying happy hour and sporting her new gold medal. A manager told Patch Abby was just hanging out with some friends and sharing congratulatory drinks with a few folks who happened to be there.
Wednesday morning, she tweeted: "Nice day celebrating with my Hermosa crew!!! Wow. That got weird.#epic"

Before leaving for the 2012 London Games, Wambach did a video for the United States Agency for International Development.
On July 31, during the Olympics, USAID announced Wambach as its first-ever Development Champion. Wambach's role will be to "raise awareness of the work USAID is undertaking to improve the lives of young women and girls through sport around the world," according to a press release.
Trivia: Did you know that the 2010 London Olympic Games were the first time time in Olympic history that all participating nations [205, in 2012] had female athletes competing in every sport, according to wording in the USAID/Wambach video.
