USA Volleyball High Performance Volleyball Tournament

Starting next Wednesday and running through Sunday, the High Performance Volleyball tournament will feature elite beach volleyball athletes 12-25 years old.

To be selected to play in the tournament, as well as other national and international events, athletes had to pass four-hour tryout sessions earlier in the year.

The event will be held near the Hermosa Beach Pier.

Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series

One of the biggest beach volleyball events of the year, the Jose Cuervo Beach Volleyball Series makes a stop in Hermosa Beach for the Hermosa Beach Open July 20-22.

According to organizers, the tournament series is one of the highest-paying and most well attended beach volleyball tours in the country with a prize purse of $100,000 for the Hermosa event.

Last year marked the tour's inaugural season and organizers say this year's tour will offer an even better experience.

"The Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series delivers intense competition between some of the best players in the world and an energetic atmosphere where fans are up close to the action," said 2011 Manhattan Beach Open winner Sean Scott.

The event is free and open to the public.
