Surfrider Helps Rid Hermosa of Cigarette Butts

The organization is contributing to the cause of keeping the city as litter-free as possible.

Hoping to help curb cigarette butts discarded improperly near the ocean in Hermosa Beach, the South Bay Chapter of Surfrider Foundation will be giving the city 20 disposal containers, said Craig Cadwallader at the Hermosa Beach City Council meeting Tuesday night.

Cadwallader, a Manhattan Beach resident and Surfrider representative who spoke during the public participation portion of the meeting, said he had had a "very productive" meeting with City Manager Tom Bakaly and city staff Tuesday, discussing where the containers would be placed.

He told City Council and audience members that there is a "plan in place so we can mitigate the problem with litter."
