This T-Shirt Contest Ain't Wet

Visitors to SpyderSurf Boards' Facebook photo album page can "Like" one of three designs in the running for use on official apparel of the summer concert series, said Mark Cole, website and marketing manager for Spyder.

All "liking" must be done online on the individual piece of artwork by 5 p.m. Thursday. Voting via this method is the only way you can designate the design you prefer.

This is the first year Spyder is taking a public poll to select the winning design. The three designs being considered are by Brian Kingston, who designed last year's summer concert apparel design, and Phil Roberts. Both men are artists Spyder works with. The winning design's creator will be paid for the use of his design, said Cole.

Cole said the Facebook voting is the result of "brainstorming ideas" with those involved in the summer concert series. "We wanted to create a little buzz," he said.

The schedule for the free Sunset Concerts 2012, held Sundays on the sand on the south side of the HB Pier adjacent to The Strand from 5:30 to 7 p.m., is

• July 29: Nikka Costa with guest Clayton Joseph Scott Band 
• Aug. 5: Poncho Sanchez with guest the Bside Players 
• Aug. 12: The Spazmatics with guest James Clay Garrison 
• Aug. 19: The Aggrolites with guest the Common Sense Band   

Cole expects apparel to include a woman's tank top, T-shirts and sweatshirts, ranging in price from $20 to more than $40 in children and adult sizes.

The apparel will debut at the first concert and then in SpyderSurf shops and future concerts. SpyderSurf Boards has two shops in Hermosa: 2461 Pacific Coast Hwy. and 61 Pier Ave.
