Donate Old Jeans for Cause

There's a Volcom dropbox at Spyder Surf in Hermosa Beach where you can donate a pair of jeans to people in need.

Tis the season to give back, and Hermosa Beach Patch has found one way to do a good deed this Thanksgiving: give away an old pair of jeans.

Apparel company Volcom in October teamed up with the National Coalition for the Homeless to collect denim for homeless families across the country.

The initiative now has targeted various cities, encouraging local shoppers to get involved, including here in Hermosa Beach, where a denim dropbox sits near the entrance of on PCH.

"There's a lot of less fortunate people out there," said Spyder store manager Pono Barnes on Monday. He told Patch that he donated a pair of jeans during the denim drive last year.

Barnes said that "those little things," such as donating jeans or socks, can make life easier for people in need. , who works part-time at Spyder, pointed out that the holidays are a good time to get involved.

If you have a pair of unwanted jeans, drop them off at Spyder and notify a store employee. All jeans will get donated to a homeless shelter in the local area, and you could be entered to win some free Volcom gear.
