Hartley, the Lab Found In Hermosa

The happy 7-year-old, yellow Labrador needs a forever home as he was found abandoned on the beach.

Hartley (who also responds to Kona) is a 7-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever available to adopt.

While participating on a volunteer police patrol, Hermosa Beach resident Ken Hartley found the dog tied up on the local beach, where he was apparently abandoned.

The Torrance-based Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue group now has placed the dog with a foster parent until he can find a permanent home.

Ken told Patch in an e-mail Tuesday that it would be "awesome" to keep the dog in the beach city where he was originally found.

The 90-pound male Labrador is a "big lover" as he tends to lay his head on your lap for attention and will follow you everywhere, according to the SCLRR website.

Because he was abandoned by his previous owner, the dog can feel anxious when left alone outside, and it takes him a while to settle into a new environment.

He is house trained, but would need supervision for the first week in a new home. He would do well with another dog in the home, but SCLRR staffers warn they are unsure how he behaves around cats.

The Lab knows "sit," but would need to learn other basic commands and training.
