Hermosa Grocery Named Top Fundraiser

was recently named the top fundraiser in the Charity Campaign for People with Disabilities by the Special Olympics and Easter Seals of Southern California.

During the month-long campaign in April, the Hermosa Beach Vons location raised $6,438.34 for people with disabilities, Easter Seals announced in a release on Tuesday. 

The proceeds from the fundraisers will benefit the efforts of both Easter Seals and the Special Olympics of Southern California.

Easter Seals provides life skills and support for individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, physical and mental disabilities while the Special Olympics offers sports training and competition for persons with intellectual disabilities. 

"This annual fundraiser is helping to open a whole new world of possibilities and participation for countless people with disabilities," said Special Olympics Southern California president and CEO Bill Shumard in the release. 

Shurmard also added that the Hermosa Beach Vons consistently ranks as a top fundraiser during the annual charity event. "We are very grateful to all employees and customers who participate, especially with the continuing challenges in our economy," said Shurmard.

Jeff Smith, the store manager at Hermosa Beach Vons said that both loyal customers and store employees helped ensure the fundraiser was successful. 

"We are a decades-long supporter of Easter Seals and Special Olympics and are very proud of their work to help people with disabilities gain independence," said Smith.
