Hermosa Rotary Supports Two International Projects

The organization is currently involved with projects in both Thailand and the Philippines.

The will report during its meeting Tuesday on the progress of its involvement with two charitable projects overseas.

The first project, which the Hermosa Rotary has supported since 2010, helps feed underprivileged children in Olongapo City in the Philippines by providing two breakfasts per week for an entire year.

According to Treasurer Travers Devine, a matching grant from Rotary International has allowed the club to feed 250 children instead of the original 50 the club fed in previous years.

The club's second project supports the greater efforts of Los Angeles' Rotary Club of Thai Town and Thailand's Rotary Club of Eastern Seaboard Pattaya to provide clean drinking water to families in Bangkok and northern Thailand.

Devine said that donations to the Thailand project help provide water filtration systems that are capable of producing seven liters of clean water per day and can last up to five years at a cost of only $50 per unit.
