Kiwanis Plan Spaghetti Dinner, Car Wash

The Kiwanis Club of Hermosa Beach is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner on Friday and a car wash on Saturday to benefit two local charitable organizations.

The "Spaghetti Feed," which will take place at the on Valley Drive from noon until 6 p.m. Friday, will benefit the Aktion Club, the Kiwanis announced in a release. 

Tickets for the all-you-can-eat event are $7.

The Aktion Club, which is now in its third year in Hermosa Beach, is an organization for developmentally disabled adults who wish to provide service to the community. Past projects have included collecting food for Tsunami victims, sending greeting cards to U.S. troops overseas, and painting a community center building in Hermosa.

Proceeds from the Spaghetti Feed will help fund the Aktion Club's trip to its annual district convention in September.

"Most of the Aktion Club members live in group homes and don’t have an opportunity to get out and socialize. Going to the Convention gives them the opportunities to interact with others like themselves and to contribute to the community, it is something they talk about all year," said Aktion Club advisor Greg Ronkainen in the release.

Car Wash

Saturday's car wash will benefit the Builders Club, a middle school community service club. The car wash will take place in the Kiwanis Hall parking lot on Valley Drive from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. to help raise funds for school programs.

The sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students will wash cars for a suggested $5 donation. Other monetary donations will also be accepted.
