Micah, the Baby Bunny

This American rabbit is available for adoption, and we have a quick rabbit care checklist to follow.

Micah is a small, baby male American rabbit looking for a Hermosa Beach home.

This tiny ball of fur, with big brown eyes, needs a loving family that will care for him throughout his youth and adult years.

Rabbits can live for longer than a decade, according to the Humane Society, so a rabbit may be with your family for as long as a dog would.

Micah is up-to-date with his routine shots, but to prepare for his adoption, the society has created a checklist for rabbit care.

  • Make sure a young rabbit has his or her own area with one or more litterboxes, water bowl or bottle, and safe chew toys.
  • Call your rabbit's caretakers to find out which types of hay and vegetables are best to feed him or her.
  • Try not to handle your rabbit too much during the first few days. Allow him or her to get acquainted with you by sitting on the floor and letting him or her come to you.
  • Keep the rabbit's environment as quiet and calm as possible.
  • Let your rabbit get used to his or her new home before meeting other pets, such as cats or dogs.
  • If you already have another rabbit, keep your new rabbit separate from the other until you can do introductions in a neutral location so neither are territorial.
  • If you're adopting more than one rabbit at once, keep an extra close eye on them. The stress from a big move can result in fights, even with rabbits who have been bonded for years.

Just in time for spring, Micah and other rabbits are housed in the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' South Bay pet adoption center.
