Video: Relay Benefits Cancer Research

Teams walk in this year's Beach Cities Relay for Life.

Cancer survivors, patients, and others affected by the deadly disease converged at Alta Vista Elementary School in neighboring Redondo Beach on Saturday for the . The relay included 39 teams from across the South Bay, including corporate sponsors such as Metlife and DHL Express.

"They come together for one day and one night to fight back against cancer and to celebrate survivors and make people aware of this disease," said Nicole Padilla, the event chair.

Relay for Life took place for 24 hours from 9 a.m. Saturday to Sunday and included entertainment, food and an illuminaria ceremony. All donations go toward the American Cancer Society
