The Hermosa Beach Library, located on 550 Pier Ave., contains approximately 58,000 books; 90 magazine and newspaper subscriptions; 5,300 audiocassettes; and 6,200 videocassettes. Its history in the community dates back near the turn of the century and was located where the St. Cross Episcopal Church is today. It is part of the County of Los Angeles Public Library system, which was founded in 1912.<br /> <br /> The 6,400-square feet building serves in a variety of helpful functions. These include reference services, reader's advisory service, Internet access computers, online library catalogs and reference databases, a microform reader/printer, adult and children's programs and a photocopier.<br /> <br /> Special collections of the Hermosa Beach Library are the Leonard Wibberly Collection, the Caldecott and Newbery Award books and the Academy Awards Video Collection.<br /> <br /> For special events at the Hermosa Beach Library or other county libraries, visit their Web site or read the bulletins posted inside.<br /> <br /> Library cards are free to permanent and temporary residents of California. To receive one, fill out an application at a county library along with a valid identification. Cards are good for three years.
