Its history in the community dates back near the turn of the century and was located where the St. Cross Episcopal Church is today. It is part of the County of Los Angeles Public Library system, which was founded in 1912.
The 6,400-square feet building serves in a variety of helpful functions. These include reference services, reader's advisory service, Internet access computers, online library catalogs and reference databases, a microform reader/printer, adult and children's programs and a photocopier.
Special collections of the Hermosa Beach Library are the Leonard Wibberly Collection, the Caldecott and Newbery Award books and the Academy Awards Video Collection.
