The Hermosa Beach PoliceMore Department (HBPD) has 39 sworn personnel. Thedepartment has assignments in detectives, traffic, patrol, backgrounds and training, internal affairs and the Community Lead Program. Heading the HBPD is Police Chief Greg Savelli.

Local volunteer programs include a chaplain, Crisis Response Team and Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS). VIPS are the official ambassadors of the Hermosa Beach chief of police.

The Hermosa Beach Neighborhood Watch is also active in the community and partners with HBPD. Its state mission is "to make each home, each street and each area more crime resistant and also to promote education and training for individual and neighborhood disaster preparedness."
