The Hermosa Beach Planning Commission helps maintain the community in a variety of functions. This includes theMore long-range organization of the city's general plan, short-term projects and land-use controls, all with adherence to the code. The commission acts as an adviser to the Hermosa Beach City Council on all matters concerning zoning and various permits.

The commission's five members must be qualified electors of the city. Members serve four-year terms. The commission meets in the City Council Chambers at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month. In December, however, the board meets on the month's first Wednesday.

The commission is affiliated with the Hermosa Beach Community Development Department. That department also acts as a liaison to the City Council and Planning Commission on land use and developmental matters for Hermosa Beach.

Emergency Preparedness Advisory Commission

This seven-member commission provides advice and recommendations to the Hermosa Beach City Council on how cityMore residents can prepare and respond to emergencies. The group provides, for the City Council, an updated emergency preparedness plan and help with promoting the theme of emergency preparedness to the community. The board also coordinates emergency response volunteers and makes grant applications for emergency preparedness revenues. 

Members must be residents of the city and will serve four-year terms. The commission meets regularly in the City Council Chambers at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of each month.

The Community Development Department is comprised of the Planning Division and the Building Safety Divisions.

The Planning Division updates the city's general plan and local zoning codes, while the latter conducts building inspections to ensure building codes are satisfied.

Both work together as a liaison to the Planning Commission.

The department also encompasses the city's code enforcement officer.

Building inspections are conducted between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. during regular businesses hours and must be requested 24 hours in advance via the inspection request line.
