The Public Works Department is responsible for caring and improving the local environment.

The departmentMore heads upkeep for the following public facilities:

  • City-owned buildings

Key citywide services are also provided by the department, including street maintenance, street sanitation and traffic safety.

The City Engineering Department is also housed in the Public Works Department.

Hours for applying for public works permits: 7 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. on regular business days.

The Hermosa Beach Public Works Commission reviews and assigns recommendations on all capital improvement (cityMore infrastructure) projects for the Hermosa Beach City Council. The five-member board also assists in updating design guidelines for public improvements and other matters assigned by the City Council.

Members must be qualified electors of the city and will serve four-year terms. The commission meets in the City Council Chambers at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month.
