Gloria Tierney has worked as a freelance journalist for the last 25 years. Her byline has appeared in a number of respected publications including Sierra, Backpacker, The San Diego Union-Tribune and The Times of London. She was also a stringer for Reuters News Service in San Diego from 1997 to 2002. Gloria was born in Coronado Hospital and attended the local Coronado schools. After graduating from the University of California, San Diego, with a degree in political science, she moved to Santa Barbara to attend graduate school. She also participated in the University of California's Education Abroad Program and spent a year at Chinese
University in Hong Kong, where she studied Mandarin Chinese. After dropping out of grad school and before becoming a journalist, she worked for a human rights organization in Los Angeles. She returned to Coronado in 1982 and has lived here ever since.
