Bikers Praise Free Valet as Fiesta Ends

Labor Day bicyclists offer their opinions of the bike valet parking operation on the final day of Fiesta Hermosa.

South Bay bicyclists jammed the free bike valet parking lot for the third consecutive day as Labor Day crowds soaked up the sunshine, music, food and beach culture at Fiesta Hermosa on Monday.

It was all smiles, good times and another perfect day on the sand for me and my fellow volunteers from the South Bay Bicycle Coalition and the Beach Cities Cycling Club as we watched over a sea of bicycles, while we also watched dolphins play in the waters just south of the Hermosa Pier.

Once again the gang from Hermosa Cyclery put in a full day overseeing the operation and making sure hundreds of bicyclists got their tires properly inflated before they rode off.

Ken, Mark and Felix from the bike shop were there from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, and there's no way the bike valet could have been as successful as it was without Hermosa Cyclery's commitment and contributions to making it happen.

Carla Merriman and Maureen Hunt from the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau checked in on the valet lot throughout the Fiesta and seemed very happy with the expanded lot at its new location on the beach.

We're still waiting for the official estimate of how many bikes were parked in the bike corral over the three-day holiday, but there was no doubt about how many bicycle riders loved using the free service.
